In Memory

Guy Lambert

Guy Royal Lambert Jr.
DURHAM — Guy Lambert, who died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 15, 2014 sometimes got mistaken as a Canadian hockey player. Or as the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia. Or even as a retired sumo wrestler decked out in a Hawaiian shirt.
Guy's friends, however, didn't mistake him for anyone other than the larger-than-life teddy bear he was, a world traveler who ate well, drank better, frolicked to Duke sports, befriended many, enjoyed playing harmonica and brought a rascal's joy to everything he did.
Guy Royal Lambert Jr., 53, was the son of Dorothy A. and Guy R. Lambert of Burlington, N.C. A 1978 graduate of Walter M. Williams High School in Burlington, Guy won a multi-year Alyse Smith Cooper Scholarship to Duke University, from which he graduated in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in biology.
A longtime research biologist with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Research Triangle Park, Guy co-authored several scientific papers and book chapters on environmental issues. A resident of Durham since college, he also was a founding officer of the Philtrum Corp.
Guy is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Barnes, and a niece, Evelyn Barnes, both of San Francisco, Calif., and many close friends.
A private memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to the Duke Annual Fund - Trident College Financial Aid in memory of Guy Royal Lambert '82 (http://j.mp/GuyLambert) or a charity of choice for the benefit of animals.
